Cult by Deresh in the USA
In current issue of Fiction magazine (New York) fragments of novelCult by Lyubko Deresh have been published. The English translation has been made by Peter Constantine.
Lyubko Deresh, born in Lviv, Ukraine, in 1984, is considered one of the most important Ukrainian writers of the post-Soviet era. He is the author of five novels, the first of which, CULT, was published when he was 16. A modern gothic that blends Western and Eastern high- and pop-cultural tropes. Lyubko Deresh’s work has been translated into many languages.
Peter Constantine is a British and American award-winning literary translator who has translated literary works from German, Ukrainian, Italian, Russian, French, Modern and Ancient Greek, Albanian, Dutch, and Slovene. He is the translator of a fiction and poetry, publishing in literary magazines in the United States, Britain, and Australia.
Peter Constantine is the translator of The Complete Works of Isaac Babel, which received the Koret Jewish Literature Award and a National Jewish Book Award Citation. His numerous translations include Six Stories by Thomas Mann, which was awarded the PEN Translation Prize, and The Undiscovered Chekhov: Forty-Three New Stories, which received the National Translation Award. His translation of the Modern Greek Poet Stylianos Harkianakis's poetry book Mother received the 2004/2005 Hellenic Association of Translators of Literature Prize. In 2007 Constantine was the recipient of the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize for his translation of Benjamin Lebert's novel The Bird is a Raven. His translation of The Essential Writings of Machiavelli was a finalist for the 2008 The PEN/Book-of-the-Month Club Translation Prize. He has also translated works by Sophocles, Gogol, Voltaire, Leo Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Günter Grass etc. He is co-editor an anthology of Greek poetry from Homer to the present.
